Phuket
Phuket
is the base for sailing the Andaman Sea; and there are few places on
Earth which compare to the Andaman Sea when it comes to yachting. Through
the long northeast monsoon season, weather conditions are the equal
of any area in the world, better, for example, than those in the Mediterranean.
The annual Phuket King's Cup Regatta brings hundreds of the world's
keenest ocean sailors to enjoy spectacular racing. Even in the south-west
monsoon season there are calm, protected waters in fascinating Phang
Nga Bay. There are many charter sailing boats available Through the
long northeast monsoon season, weather conditions are better than those
in the Mediterranean. Day after day, calm seas and clear skies come
complete with fair winds for sailing. Sea temperatures, meanwhile, never
dip below 26ºC, making peripheral activities such as windsurfing and
diving pure pleasure even without a wetsuit. Bays on Phuket such as
Patong or Nai Harn, the venue of the annual King's Cup Regatta, provide
superb anchorages. Even in the May-October southwest monsoon, when the
west coast is exposed to squalls and heavy seas from the Indian Ocean,
Phang -Nga Bay offers safe sailing. Meanwhile, on the eastern side of
Phuket, safe harbours with a full range of yachting facilities are available
in Ao Chalong, The Boat lagoon and Laem Phrao.
The
Andaman
The
Andaman offers a rare combination. There's Phuket, an island as big as
Singapore, with its wide range of facilities -- yachting services of all
kinds, a wide range of accommodation, world-class seafood, a color full
nightlife, golf, gamefishing, plus a wealth of other leisure activities.
At the same time, there are scores of uninhabited islands, your classic
desert isles, virtual frontiers awaiting exploration. Best of all, perhaps,
and despite the many attractions, the Andaman Sea has yet to become congested
with boat traffic. Whether you're an old salt or a total landlubber, you
can enjoy sailing these waters.
Mergui
Archipelago
- Burma.
Maritime
Yacht Charters have been given the opportunity to explore one of the last
pristine environments on earth, the Mergui Archipelago. Finally, the Burmese
authorities pulled the curtain and opened up this amazing archipelago
to foreigners. The Mergui Archipelago contains more than
800 islands and stretches over 10.000 square miles. In times when remote-controlled
robots are discovering planet Mars it almost sounds like a fairy tale:
The Mergui Archipelago is one of the world's last areas which has never
before been explored by sailing yachts. The port of Mergui was the main
gate to the gulf of Siam in the 17th century and acts of piracy were rampant,
as all passing traders had to come into the port. Mergui Archipelago seems
to have passed our computerized civilization without author and still
contains the spirit of the old days. The visitor will find untouched reefs,
sharks, big fish and an endless variety of coral. Uninhabited islands,
white sandy beaches and the mystic jungle of the Mergui Archipelago are
waiting to be explored - by you!
The Andaman
Islands
The Andaman Islands
Archipelago located 420 miles west of Phuket consists of 329 islands,
the three main ones being North Andaman, Middle Andaman and South Andaman
which run predominantly north to south. The remaining islands are scattered
on the east and west sides of the main island
A part of India,
the Andaman Islands are one of the world's newest sailing destinations
and have yet to be properly explored for sailing. After a 50 year period
of virtual isolation from the outside world the Indian government has
made a decision to allow limited, environmentally conscious tourism
development in the islands. On the surrounding islands live some of
the last stone-age peoples on the earth. One tribe, the Sentinelese,
are isolated on their own tiny tropical island, North Sentinel, and
no visitors are allowed; no camera crews, no journalists, no scientists,
and no researchers. Contact has been attempted only a few times by the
Indian government and the locals have made it rather clear-by throwing
primitive spears and shooting arrows at the party-that they do not want
to be disturbed. The Andamans are certainly not for everyone. It requires
spending long periods of time on the boat. However, for those interested
in sailing in on of the last pristine environments on earth, this is
it.
